Entry 86 - Lesson on Prayer

9/16/19

Merriam-Webster dictionary defines prayer as: An address (such as a petition) to God.

When we think of prayer, we often think of two things in particular: Contacting and petitioning God. I see prayer as a diamond. Each plane or edge of the diamond is beautiful but also separate and distinct from the other edge of the diamond, but they all are part of the one diamond in the end. I believe there are many ways to pray that can be discovered and explored, but the particular 'edge' I want to explore is when we pray desiring to change something in our lives for the better.

I believe this prayer is used because we desire to manifest whatever it is that might make life better in some way, shape or form. One might use prayer as a way to claim what we want to change and to help manifest that change with God's power. Prayer directed towards our growth and for God both contribute towards the fulfilling of God's desire to save all mankind. The two go hand in hand, and that's why I don't believe it's selfish to pray for ourselves as well as for others. You are just as much a part of God's plan as anyone else, so don't feel bad if you pray to God to elevate you in all possible ways.

Jesus repeated over and over, "Ask with faith..." "Believe and you will receive..." "Ask your heavenly Father because He cares about you..." "What Father gives bad gifts when you ask Him?..." This all points to the reality that God wants what is best for us, and when we place it before His feet and out into the universe, we should ask with faith believing that we already have it. Without that intention and belief that God will provide, then we might as well not pray in the first place. Prayer is an exercise of faith, and faith is an expression of our relationship with the Creator.

So with prayer, we have a desire to somehow change a present situation or a future situation, or liberation from the past. It's a plea or a petition to God to initiate dramatic change in our lives, believing that He can accomplish much more if we give Him the chance than if we were to do it alone. Even though He might not answer our request in the exact same way you expected, sometimes when you think God says 'No', God is actually saying 'Not this way, but this way. It'll be better for you if I do it this way'.

The hard part is since we do not see the beginning, middle and end, we fail to see that His answer to our prayers are one million times better than what we thought was, and then we may get disappointed by that which we do not understand. "God's ways are higher than our ways never rang more true." But realizing that your intention to change your past, present, and future for the better and laying it down before God's feet will allow Him to move in marvelous ways in your own life. Maybe not in the way you expected, but nonetheless, He will move in such a way that brings forth positive change.

So when you seek betterment in your own life, reach out to the Creator. He wants only what is best for you, and when you go to Him, the best solution is what He'll give you. Maybe not exactly how you expected, or maybe entirely different from what you expected, but nonetheless He will help you on your path to perfection. Never forget, the Creator of the Universe who brought you into existence loves you, cares about you, and will always be there for you.
